Memorial Ride for Gordon McCoy - April 18, 2010
Gordon rode motorcycles for over 50 years and he truly loved it. He even made slings when his daughters were young so they could ride along with him and his wife!
On December 10, 2009, Gordon passed away at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer. One of his last requests was to have a motorcycle escort to the cemetery at his funeral. Unfortunately, the day of his funeral it was raining and 33 degrees and all involved decided it was too dangerous for the bikes.
One of Gordon's favorite sayings that you are sure to have heard him say if you saw him hanging around Smokin' was, "I don't believe I would have done it like that." This ride is our way to honor his request and his memory, even if it isn't exactly what he planned. Gordon's wife, Mary Jean, and some of his family will be participating. It is being organized and led by Charles Ball.
We are leaving from Smokin' at 1:30pm on Sunday, April 18. We will stop at the gravesite in Clemmons West Cemetery where there will be a short memorial service and an opportunity for anyone who would like to speak to say a few words.
We encourage everyone to come out and ride in memory of our friend Gordon.
A memory ride patch will be available.
